Nicolas ZEHNDER, environment manager of the Socomec group:
What does environment mean to Socomec?
Socomec became aware quite early of the importance of environmental stakes and has been involved for 5 years in the PEP Ecopassport association through the publication of PEP. Today, our customers are increasingly demanding reliable information about our environmental performance. Furthermore, regulations also require us to a more transparent and objective communication. In this context, environmental declarations have taken a strategic position in the company.
What are your missions?
My role is to monitor and identify high impacting evolutions in environmental regulations and standards. In a transversal organization, I ensure the proper taking into account of these changes by the operational departments of the company. This is a double challenge because I have to be constantly aware of the latest evolutions in a highly changing context whilst at the same supporting the various divisions of the company in implementing changes.
What are your priorities and plans for the future ?
Our target is to have a PEP Ecopassport certification for our main product ranges. To do this, we progressively deploy the PEP competence in our various engineering offices. More generally, we are actively involved in the internationalization of the PEP Ecopassport program and also in the European initiative PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) which aims to give a framework to UPSs environmental declarations via European harmonized rules.
